Quote from the artist:
“Looking at art can be a form of deep listening. With ‘Listening Wheel’, I’m presenting figures in landscapes that stand outside of a particular place and time. When making a painting, I’m looking for resonances that we share in a way that resembles folk tales. I want the viewer to recognize and feel things without thinking.
Saint Francis - 36”x24”
“My process involves a deliberate use of, and respect for, randomness. I set myself up, beginning with clouds of charcoal dust and random lines on panel. From there, I look for implied images and stories that I can pull out and refine. In this way, I’m running interference with the logical mind and working from a place of discovery. In the end, I hope to present an organized system that parallels the strangeness and wonder of living.” —Lee Barber
